Mystery 3

On summer vacation, Nordes the bug expert would go out and go worm hunting. He always brought his ax handle along. It was the best stick for worm fiddling.

Once a year there was a worm invention contest. If you made a pill or magnet that brought up worms, you win a  pocket mirror for third prize, a wristwatch for second, and a camera for first.

This year, Vopooh participated. He had brought a box of dirt, a cup of water and a bottle of weird looking pills. He came up front and said, " I put 20 worms in this box. Now I will make them rise to the surface. " He took a pill and dropped it into the box. Then he poured water from the cup. After a while, a worm came up. Then a tangle of worms squirmed out from the dirt. "See? " Vopooh bragged. "Those pills are nothing!" shouted Nordes."I think you're cheating!"

How?

  1. How about the worm came up to escape from the water?

    Anyway, the post is funny.

  2. the pill dissolves in water and makes the worms float

  3. Nordes thinks the pills are nothing so I have to guess only the water makes the difference.

  4. the water, dirt, or worms might be part of it

  5. Who kissed a worm (or slug) should be able to figure this out.

  6. ... I got nothing (i kissed a slug)

  7. I'll give you a hint: The word "generation".

  8. the pill dissolves and the worms give babies, which float up

  9. Good try, but that's not the answer. But consider, what do you need to do generations? And, what things do you need to have to do that? And finally, which thing is missing to the worms when Vopooh pours the water and pill in the box?

  10. "pour bleach on the soil wait about 15 min they will come to the top". I have to guess that the water and pill generated bleach through some kind of chemical reaction.

  11. Close, but not yet correct. (Um, 15 min is a long time. It was more like 2 or 3 min.)

  12. Maybe he used electricity?

We would need an experiment. I would think the current from batteries would not be high enough to get the worms out to top.

  13. Good try, but you keep guessing the answer from the wrong side.

The current of batteries may be high enough, but I don't think he even has space to fit the batteries (there was a little more than a whole tangle) in the box.

  14. Big hint:

The worms weren't pushed to the surface.

  15. can you give us more clues? you just gave us the word generation

  16. I just gave you a big hint when I was answering Bill's question.

  17. Another big hint:

    The word: "age"

(the word: "age is not the direct answer.)

  18. vopooh trained the worms to come out when the pill dissolves it is the signal for the worms ( though I don't think the worms are smart enough)

  19. Close, but it actually the answer is something else. (and, your answer has nothing to do with age)

    Another hint:

The pills have nothing to do with it. The water does it. The worms need something. They come to the surface to get it.

  20. So it goes back to what I commented way earlier. Worms need air so when the water is poured in, they come up for the air.

  21. Correct. When you pour water in the dirt, the worms can't breath; the water is blocking. So, the worms come to the surface to breath.
